New Release from Dr James D Bryant

Barnabas Briefs: Encouragement along the Road is an exercise in discovering and gaining encouragement in one's life pilgrimage. It is through the author's own experience, poetry, and meditations on scripture themes that such encouragement may be realized.

The title is taken from the name of the Apostle Paul's early companion and encourager, Barnabas, who was responsible for Paul's introduction to the early church leaders in Jerusalem.

The author's hope is that this book will be a companion on the road of life's encounters. May it further be a challenge for you to remember your own encouragers and result in you becoming one for others as well.

The Mountain Shack Mystery - New Release

The Great Bear Mountains of Tennessee are mysterious and wonderful. For everyone who lives on this glorious mountain range, with acres of giant, beautiful trees, their families have been there for hundreds of years. The only newcomers are the ones recently born on the mountain, or those who have been approved for very short vacation visits. That's the way the mountain people wanted it.

Only five families started out on this mountain, and those five families have grown into over two thousand citizens living there. They fought long and hard to have the right to choose who comes and goes on their mountain. It is now a community law: if the mountain people don't approve of you, you're out! Well, that is, if they know you're on their mountain...

Something very strange was discovered while Jodi O'Connor was visiting her family on Bear Mountain. No one there had experienced anything like it before, and they hoped to never come across anything like it again! The peaceful mountain had become scary and unknown. How could something so awful, so cruel happen right under their nose? This was one time the people of the mountain agreed that they needed and welcomed outsiders to come and stay as long as necessary to deal with this horrible nightmare that had come to their beautiful, peaceful mountain.

Down Coon Hollow Road - New Release

Maynard Olms is an eighty-year-old bachelor who lives in a three-room house with his wolf-dog, Duke, in the Ozark Mountains of southern Missouri. John and Marcella Washburn and their two children, Kelsey and Andrew, live on one end of Coon Hollow Road. Maynard and Duke live on the other.

It is the summer of 1988, "the nation's worst drought in 50 years," declares the July 4, 1988, issue of Time Magazine. Cattle are starving as Missouri pastures shrivel and die in the heat. Gardens yield no vegetables for canning and freezing. Orchard trees produce only nubbins of fruit. Apprehension seeps into the already-impoverished community.

On the first day of seventh grade, Kelsey Washburn comes home and tells her parents about her new friend, Ava McKittrick, who has just moved into their rural neighborhood from Arkansas. Motherless Ava, who lives with her father, Ben McKittrick, is a child prodigy in math and science.

A relationship blossoms between elderly Maynard and the two teenage girls, Kelsey and Ava. The girls carry supper to Maynard two nights a week. They stack his firewood, listen to his harmonica, and soak up the wisdom of his yarns.

The girls confide in Maynard, telling him about their dreams of college and hoped-for careers as a scientist and a veterinarian.

Maynard, who lives like a pauper, actually has a fortune hidden on his Missouri property. When Maynard dies, his Last Will and Testament directs that his money be distributed to Kelsey and Ava, to be used for their college educations, "if they can find it."

But Maynard's evil nephew, Clayton Olms, also has his sights set on finding Maynard's money and shows up on Coon Hollow Road at the most inopportune time.

It's a winner-takes-all treasure hunt between two teenage girls and Clayton Olms, a convicted criminal wielding a gun! Ultimately, Duke, Maynard's beautiful wolf-dog determines who finds the hidden treasure.

Sherry E Lee's Recent 4-star Review!

I cried, "No, Lord, I'm too afraid! Please pluck my eyes out of their sockets, anything, but don't make me do this! I don't want to see!"

"You have the demon of fear in you! I command that demon to leave you."

My stomach began growling, and I thought I was going to throw up. I jumped up and ran to the bathroom to purge what I felt coming up! Retching hard, I felt something come out of me. When I looked down in the toilet, nothing was there! I flushed the toilet and shrugged to myself, shaking my head. "I've got to be crazy."

Looking around, I found the room was empty. I shrugged it off and lay down, facing the west again. I began singing with KLove and praising God.

He appeared a third time! "Daughter, turn over and face the east."

I had no fear this time. As I began turning over, I heard the sound of a horn so beautiful that it reminded me of the deep beauty of a French horn, just so majestic. The ceiling was gone, and I saw this huge ball of fire flying from the west to the east. When the ball hit in the east, this giant mushroom cloud went up!

In an instant, I found myself standing in the garden with Jesus. I thought I was dead! The only thing I asked was, "Will my boys be okay?"

He answered, "Yes."

I was at peace.
