Charley invites you to enter the world of autism. Being Charley: Embracing Differences is a story about a Canada goose who is unlike his siblings. Charley has autism. The words and illustrations tell the story with awareness, understanding, and acceptance of individual differences.

Learning how to swim, honk, and fly are challenging. Charley is hesitant to swim because the water is too cold against his feathers. Learning to honk with his siblings hurts his ears because it is so loud. The sun is too bright when flying in the V-formation so Charley flies upside down. The family flock does not understand at first but soon realizes that Charley is different.

The authors' goal in writing the story is for readers to embrace the uniqueness of individual differences. The story has a theme: Together, we can be different and still belong.

Author Rafael Polo Receives Letter from President Trump

In 1959, the Cold War was getting warmer. Cuba was the revolutionary fuel that made it hot. When Fidel Castro took power, he promised free elections, but instead, he became the country's new dictator, and a communist one at that. Marco's family did not support the Castro regime and was subjected to insults and mockery from former "friends."

As the country dug deeper and deeper into Marxism, Marco's parents decided it was time to talk to their nine-year-old boy. They proposed a tough decision--either go live in the United States with his aunt, or stay with them in Cuba. He chose to go. He knew that was what his parents wanted.

Marco lived with his aunt and uncle for a short and difficult time. About eight months later, his family was reunited. Like all immigrants before them, they struggled to make a living, but with hard work, discipline, and belief in God, they managed to thrive in a relative short time.

What follows is a story much like any story from millions of immigrants willing to work, assimilate, and become another ingredient in the great melting pot that is the United States of America.

Run with all of that. God has placed it in you. You must believe. You must act on those urges. You must move on those thoughts. You must have faith that God got you. You must know that you are equipped. You have to know that God makes no mistakes. You have to make the choice that you will walk in the promises that God has created for you. New Release from Billy White

True Grunt is not about a Vietnam battle or a Vietnam journal/ memoir. It is a response to seeing short "Vietnam War 50 years later videos" on TV. These videos show two sides of the infantry in Vietnam. One side depicts the infantry fighting heroically and the other depicts the infantry committing some kind of atrocity. I served on the front lines with the infantry/grunt in 1970-1971. With many grandchildren, I don't want this mixed message to be my legacy. In 1971, over 150 Vietnam veterans admitted to atrocities at a conference in Detroit, John Kerry testified in Congress about atrocities, and finally the My Lai Massacre trial of a lieutenant ended. The press explained that our high casualty rate of 35% was due to stupidity as only non- college men were being drafted. In April 1971, over 900 Vietnam Veterans threw their medals down on the Capitol Building steps. In March 1971, we actually had a chance to win the Vietnam War if we had sent troops into Laos. We chose not to because of an ill-advised law and anti-war sentiments. In those years, the infantry especially became the most maligned soldiers in our country's history. We were known as the baby killers and monsters of Vietnam. Those names continue to haunt us today. By seeing and experiencing my life as infantry- "grunt"- at that time, I hope the reader of True Grunt sees the infantry as moral men of intelligence and courage. They fought in some of the worst conditions of war. It is also a story of hope as one Vietnam Veteran regains his life, overcomes personal tragedies,and even disease from Agent Orange. It's time to project "50 years later videos" with just one message. Thousands of Vietnam grunts like myself were true to ourselves, our morals and our country. We won a great Victory inVietnam. No asterisk needed.
